About Textron

Textron Inc. is an American conglomerate that operates in the aerospace industry, automotive industry, and defense industry. As a Fortune 500 company, Textron operates with over 37,000 global employees.

Textron traces its roots back to 1923 with the formation of Special Yawns Corporation in Boston, Massachusetts. The company first began as a synthetic yarn manufacturer, and they produced parachutes for the war effort during World War II. After war production ended, the company reestablished themselves as Textron and turned their attention towards civilian products. During the 1950s, Textron began to shift towards being a conglomerate as they began acquiring multiple businesses from diverse industries such as automobile and aerospace centered companies.

In the 2000s, Textron faced various hardships after the dot-com bubble crash and the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, and they began to adjust their structure after a change in leadership. After Scott C. Donnelly took the position of CEO in 2009, Textron began acquisitions with the purchase of Mechtronix, Beechcraft, and other companies.  In the present, Textron has continued their production efforts across their various divisions and business sectors as they expand.
